7 Art of Getting Happiness – Part 2

Continuing the previous discussion from first part.

4. Distinguish Between Intermediaries and Destinations

We often hear the saying "work is to live, not live to work".

That's right, don't make work your goal, it's just a side to survival. However, many people make work their goal, so that if there are deficiencies in their work, they will be angry and full of pressure.

Now look at us as Muslims, our goal is Allah subhanahu wata'ala, the Rabb we have been calling out by name in our worship. Lord who created us to worship Him.

All our worship, our charity, is not the goal. Our goal is God! don't be fooled, be careful. So what does this point have to do with happiness? let's examine the following example:

You have a pen that you bought for Rp. 3,000. Then I say to you: "I have a friend who wants to buy your pen for Rp. 100,000, but this friend of mine never smiles!" Do you still want to sell the pen?

Of course you will still sell it! The goal is "money" while "selling" is a wasilah (middleman) only. As for smiling or not, then it doesn't matter. Let's practice in life:

Someone complains about his parents who are bad to him, even though he is already devoted. What do you suggest to him? Don't be filial anymore?

Please ask, what are you devoted to? the answer is for Allah. Not because of parents. This means that serving is an intermediary while Allah is the goal. Even if your old parents do bad things, you still have to be filial.

When you say hello to someone who clearly hears your greeting, but he doesn't reply. Do you have to be hurt? greeting is not the goal, you greeting is because of Allah's command, Allah is the goal. As for he who doesn't answer the greeting, then it's none of your business, keep on greeting.

Don't be offended by other people's words, so we stop doing good. As long as it's good and according to the Qur'an and Sunnah, then do it! our goal is Allah, his wasilah is our charity. People's talk, bad treatment, the glance in their eyes, then it's just a passing wind.

So that we have an open heart, strong principles to be a Muslim, don't want other people to arrange our good worship.

nothing can hurt you as long as Allah is your goal

Until finally, you reach the degree that nothing can hurt you as long as Allah is your goal.

It was narrated, from Al-Hasan Al-Bashri that someone said to him: "So and so has gossiped about you". Then Al-Hasan sent someone to give him a bag of dates. Then Al-Hasan said to him: "I heard that you have given me your reward, so I want to repay your kindness, forgive me if my gift is not worth it." 1

Abdurrahman bin Mahdy said: if I don't hate it when Allah disobeys, then I hope that everyone in this era will rebuke me. Moreover, what is happier than the rewards that a person will find in his notes on the Day of Resurrection, while he does nothing and does not know about it. 2

5. Eternal Beloved As Back Up

Everyone agrees that we cannot live alone without support. Life is too heavy, self is too weak.

But it turns out, every lover can't be a back up, even if he can be used as a back up then he won't last forever, he will leave us sooner or later.

From Sahl bin Sa'd said, "Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said,

"Gabriel came to me and said:"O Muhammad! Live as you please, for verily you will die. Love whomever you like, because you will part ways with him. And do as you please, for verily you will be rewarded for it." 3

There is only one eternal lover who will not disappear, the support will not be brittle, the Omnipotent, the Omnipotent over all things. Is Allah jalla tsana'uhu.

Make Allah a backup in every step of our way, always say hauqolah: laa haula wala quwwata illa billah.

Abu Musa al-Asy'ari said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: “O Abdullah Ibn Qais, would I show you one savings out of several paradise savings? That is (meaning = There is no power and strength except by the will of Allah) 4

Don't forget to read this when you are in trouble, also understand the meaning:

عن أنس بْنِ مَالِكٍ -رضي الله عنه- قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ -صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ-إِذَا كَرَبَهُ أَمْرٌ قَالَ: ” يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ “

Meaning: "Anas bin Malik radhiyallahu 'anhu said: "The Prophet Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam when a matter is troubled, he said:

” يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ

"O Most Living, Most Self-Sufficient, by Your grace I ask for help." 5

6. Al-ihsan

Ihsan means as what the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said in the hadith of Gabriel:

قَالَ فَأَخْبِرْنِى عَنِ الإِحْسَانِ. "

“'O Messenger of Allah, what is ihsan? ' He replied, 'You worship Allah as if you see Him, so if you do not see Him then He actually sees you. 6

Yes, attention to all of our worship, what do you pray for? what do you think for? what do you worship for? We must always present this question every time we worship God.

The power of Allah that we see, is the conclusive proof of the reason that Allah exists. It is impossible for everything to be created this harmoniously, this beautifully, without someone designing and arranging it.

To feel seen by Allah does not have to have seen Allah. Feeling to see Allah also does not have to have seen Allah:

Suppose you are now suddenly called upon to host a national television news program, without preparation. So now you're in the television station's studio, it's just you and the cameraman. How do you feel? Of course nervous!. Why? Even though it's just you and the cameraman? the answer is because you are "sure" behind the camera there are millions of people watching you, you never see them all.

Ihsan is the pinnacle of achievement in worship, let's both try to be the best for Allah subhanahu wata'ala.

7. Look for Friends Who Support Us to Implement the 6 Points Above

The influence of friends on life is extraordinary.

Choosing a friend is the same as choosing a seat in the afterlife

Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,

Allah

Someone will match the habits of his best friend. Therefore, pay attention to who will be your best friend. 7

Carrying out the task as a servant of God is very hard, look for at least someone who holds our hand to fight together.

May Allah make it easy for all of us to get true happiness, happiness with our beloved Lord Allah azza wajalla.
