There are some science council etiquette that we may have forgotten and neglected, namely trying to record the knowledge. Often we come to the science assembly with less sincere intentions, come to the science assembly just to listen while relaxing, and even then it's not serious, some are playing cellphones, some are leaning in the back position and manners that shouldn't be in the assembly noble knowledge and prayed for by the angels.
There are even those whose intentions are not good, namely the scientific assembly with the main purpose of getting together, kopdar, wanting to meet the ustadz or just trading. Hopefully this intention can be corrected in order to get the blessing of knowledge with the correct assembly etiquette.
Recommendations for Recording iImu
The Prophet said:
قَيِّدُوا الْعِلْمَ بِالْكِتَابِ
tie knowledge by writing it. (Ash-Shahiihah lineage no. 2026)
He even ordered some of his friends to write knowledge. One of them is Abdullah bin 'Amru. He said to him:
اكْتُبْ، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، مَا خَرَجَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا حَقٌّ
Write it down. By the One whose soul is in His hands. Nothing comes out of it but the truth. (Narrated by Ahmad 2/164 & 192, Al-Haakim 1/105-106, Sahih)
Imam Asy Shafi'i wombahullah said,
الْعِلْمُ صَيْدٌ وَالْكِتَابَةُ قَيْدُهُ قَيِّدْ صُيُوْدَكَ بِالْحِبَالِ الْوَاثِقَهْ
فَمِنَ الْحَمَاقَةِ أَنْ تَصِيْدَ غَزَالَةً وَتَتْرُكَهَا بَيْنَ الْخَلاَئِقِ طَالِقَهْ
Knowledge is the game and writing is the bond, Tie your prey with a strong rope, Including stupidity if you hunt deer, After that you leave it just like that. (Diwan Shafi'I p. 103)
To the extent that Ash-Sha'bi wombahullah said,
إِذَا سَمِعْتَ شَيْئًا فَاكْتُبْهُ وَلَوْ فِي الْحَائِطِ
"When you hear something of knowledge, then write it down even on the wall (Al-'Ilmu no. 146 by Abu Khaitsamah)
Recording knowledge so that it is not easy to forget
Human memory is weak and limited, so we are encouraged to record knowledge. By recording knowledge at the assembly, we try to summarize what we hear and record it. This makes it more focused when following the knowledge assembly and makes the memory stronger and more importantly this attitude shows our attention to science and glorifies this blessed religious knowledge.
The interpretation of Surah Al-Alaq is so that we record knowledge so that it is not easy to forget, namely reading from writing. Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al-Utsaimin wombahullah said,
قلنا: نعم له دواء ـ بفضل الله ـ وهي الكتابة، ولهذا امتن الله عز وجل على عباده بها فقال: {اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِى خَلَقَ * خَلَقَ الإِنسَـنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ * اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الاَْكْرَمُ * الَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ}. (العق: 1 ـ 4). فقال (اقرأ) ثم قال: {الَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ } يعني اقرأ من حفظك، فإن لم يكن فمن قلمك، فالله تبارك وتعالى بين لنا كيف نداوي هذه العلة، وهي علة النسيان وذلك بأن نداويها بالكتابة، والان أصبحت الكتابة أدقُّ من الأول، لأنه وجد ـ بحمد الله ـ الان المسجِّل
we say, yes. Forgetting that there is a cure – by the grace of Allah – is to write it down. Therefore Allah has gifted His servants with Surah Al-Alaq. Namely "iqra '" then "teaching with an intermediary pen". That is, read it by rote, if you don't memorize it then with your writing. Allah Tabaraka Ta'ala explains to us how treat this disease, namely forgetfulness and we treat it by writing. And now writing is easier than before because it is easy to get and all praise be to Allah, now it can be recorded. (Mutshalah Hadith of Shaykh Al-Utsaimin).
Tie also knowledge with charity
In this day and age where the means of writing and convenience copy-paste as well as social media internet facilities, so taking notes and copying is quite easy, therefore there is an expression,
قيد العلم بالعمل
Tie knowledge by practicing it
Knowledge is more worthy of being tied to charity because the knowledge that has been tied up in the books has been largely forgotten. Especially in this day and age we really need charity, an example of noble character for society.
