Bad Consequences of Bid'ah

There is no doubt that Bid'ah has very big bad consequences for the people who accept the Bid'ah and do not deny it, even this bad effect can spread to other communities as a whole. And these bad consequences have no limit and are countless, but we will try to summarize them in 4 discussions.

1. Turning off the Sunnah

It has become knowledge with action bid'ah when it is turned on it will turn off the Sunnah, and Sunnah when it is revived then bid'ah will disappear. Because Bid'ah will not live except when humans leave the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam, from the Sunnah which is obligatory and mustahab.

Because of this, we find heretical behaviorists who are very diligent and eager to carry out their heretical routines, but are weak in carrying out sunnah practice or even mandatory things.

2. Causes of Disputes and Clutter in the Community

In fact, one of the greatest consequences of the spread of Bid'ah among the people is the emergence of disputes and commotion among the people. With much debate about "Is this Bid'ah or Sunnah?”, there are many debates about this matter, the busyness of science experts in preaching heresy perpetrators and classifying them, answering questions about the law of heresy that cannot be avoided.

And this is a fact on the ground, when there is a fake hadith that is used to invite a bid'ah case, surely there are people who are gifted with understanding who will ask experts in knowledge about this matter. And there will also be experts in science who will answer and there will also be silent.

Then the impact is that a group of people will discuss this behavior and change their assembly to a debating council. There are those who support there are also those who refuse. And finally the debate became an unhealthy debate and then there were divisions and disputes among the people as a result of this bid'ah behavior.

Even though Allah has forbidden division and disagreement after the arrival of evidence from the Book and Sunnah; because this is the way of people who are lost, therefore Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala forbids Muslims to fall as these people fall into it.

وَلَا تَكُونُواْ كَٱلَّذِينَ تَفَرَّقُواْ وَٱخۡتَلَفُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتُۏ

And do not be like those who were divided and divided after clear information came to them. (Ali Imran: 105)

وَلَا تَكُونُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ ٣١ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ فَرَّقُواْ دِينَهُمۡ وَكَانُواْ ٣٢

and be not of those who associate partners with Allah. Namely those who divide their religion and they become several factions. Each group feels proud of what is in their group (Ar-Ruum: 21-32)

And the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam has forbidden his people to argue and dispute, he said:

(أَبْغَضُ الرِّجَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ الأَلَدُّ الْخَصِمُ)

The person who is most hated by Allah is the one who is the loudest in debate. (Narrated by Bukhari, no. 4523; Muslim, no. 2668.)

And he also said:

(إن الله يرضى لكم ثلاثاً، ويسخط لكم ثلاثاً؛ يرضى لكم أن تعبدوه ولا تشركوا به شيئاً، وأن تعتصموا بحبل الله جميعاً، وأن تناصحوا من ولاه الله أمركم، ويكره لكم، قيل وقال، وكثرة السؤال، وإضاعة المال)

“Indeed, Allah is pleased with three things for you and is displeased when you do three things. Allah is pleased if you worship Him and do not associate anything with Him, and (Allah is pleased) if you hold on to the rope of Allah completely and you advise each other against those in authority who manage your affairs. AGod is angry when you are busy with rumours, lots of useless questions and waste of wealth." (HR. Muslim, no. 1715.)

3. Splits in Society

Although this discussion has a close relationship with the previous discussion, this needs to be made into a separate discussion; for it is undeniable that strife and enmity will turn society into factions and factions.

Then each group began to fight for their ideas and opinions even though they contradicted the Book and Sunnah, and left the large congregation of Muslims because they followed and relied on their desires.

وَمَنۡ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ بِغَيۡرِ هُ spot ٥٠

And who is more astray than one who follows his own desires and does not receive any guidance from Allah. Verily, Allah does not guide the wrongdoers. (Al-Qasas: 50).

َفَرَءَيۡتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ وَأَضَلَّهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٖ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ سَمۡعِهِۦ وَقَلۡبِهِۦ وَجَعَلَ عَلَىٰ بَصَرِهِۦ غِشَٰوَةٗ فَمَن يَهۡدِيهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ٱللَّهِۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٢٣

 So have you ever seen a person who made his desires his god and Allah allowed him based on His knowledge and Allah has sealed his hearing and heart and put a blindfold over his sight? So who will guide him after Allah (let him go astray). Then why don't you take lessons (Al-Jatsiyah: 23)

So there is no doubt that the division of a society into factions and groups is due to bid'ah behavior, regardless of the intentions of the perpetrators because the intention seems to be in the heart and no one knows about it except Allah. We only judge humans from their dzahirnya. And bad deeds cannot be justified only because of good intentions.

4. Human Delusion and Stupidity

Bid'ah does not occur in a people unless ignorance and misguidance are spread among them. There is also a feeling of love for division, the behavior of heretics and their perpetrators, hatred for unity and even attempts to divide society.

Misleading people and making fools of them, ridiculing and insulting the scholars and characterizing them with the worst character. All of that is the fruit of bid'ah behavior. May Allah keep us away from the bad consequences.

said Jamaluddin Al-Qosimi Rahimahullah:

Among the evidence of being passionate about religion is rejecting what is associated with religion which is not actually part of that religion, and leaving it, throwing it away, degrading it, and inviting people to stay away from it. Because agreeing and allowing the case will cause evils, including:

First, ordinary people will consider it right and good.

Second, let humans get lost with it and help them above the sleaze.

Third, because this pious behavior will make people lie on behalf of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam.

من كذب علي متعمدا فليتبوأ مقعده من النار

Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said:'whoever lies in my name, get ready to occupy his seat in hell‘.

Fourth, a pious person who is followed and considered a role model for his actions can be thought of as a guide. So with that he lied on behalf of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam with his verbal condition, and verbal circumstances can become verbal words. This is where many people fall into heresy because of this.
