Rain is one of the blessings that God sends down to earth. Not a few people expect the rain to wet the earth, but there are times when someone wants the rain to stop, especially when they are on a trip.
Not a few disasters come when heavy rains pour, such as floods, landslides, and others. But it turns out that the Prophet had a special prayer when it rained heavily.
In a story, the companion of the Prophet Anas bin Malik narrated that when the Prophet was facing the Qibla during the Friday sermon, there was a man who asked the Prophet to pray for Allah Ta'ala to send rain.
"O Messenger of Allah, many of our livestock have died and it is difficult for us to travel. Ask to make it rain on us," said the man to the Messenger of Allah.
Then the Messenger of Allah prayed while raising his hands, while praying that would rain.
After the Prophet said a prayer for to rain, Anas bin Malik testified that at that time the congregation saw rain falling after a black cloud covered the surrounding sky.
“The cloud then filled the sky, spread out, and it rained. By Allah, after that, we did not see the sun for six days," said Anas bin Malik.
However, on the following Friday there was a man who stood and faced the Prophet and said that many of his cattle were now dead and it was difficult to travel, the man then asked the Messenger of Allah to pray for the rain to stop.
The Prophet then recited the prayer:
اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلاَ عَلَيْنَا ، اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الآكَامِ وَالظِّرَابِ وَبُطُونِ الأَوْدِيَةِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ
Meaning: O Allah, send down rain around us, not to damage us. O Allah, send rain on the plateau, the mountains, the hills, the belly of the valley and where the trees grow.
After the Prophet recited the prayer, the rain stopped. Even turned into the hot sun. The story is contained in the hadith narrated by Bukhari number 1014.
Praying After Rain: 'Muthirna bi fadhlilahi wa rohmatih
From Zaid bin Kholid Al Juhani, the Prophet performed the Fajr prayer with us in Hudaibiyah after it rained that night. When he was about to leave, he faced the congregation of prayer and said, "Do you know what your Lord said?" Then they said, "Allah and His Messenger know best". Then the Prophet said,
"In the morning, some of My servants will believe in Me and some will disbelieve. Who said 'Muthirna bi fadhlilahi wa rohmatih' (We are given rain because of Allah's bounty and mercy), so it is he who believes in me and disbelieves in the stars. As for the one who says 'Muthirna binnau kadza wa kadza' (We were given rain because of this and this star), then it is he who disbelieves in me and believes in the stars.." (Narrated by Bukhari no. 846 and Muslim no. 71).
Conclusion
Rain is a blessing, Islam has taught through its Apostles the procedures for asking in the form of prayer, including one of them praying for rain or praying to stop the rain, for that as a Muslim it is appropriate to use the methods that have been taught by the Prophet , not by believing or doing ways that are not taught and recommended in Islam
