Dalam shahih Bukhâri dan Muslim, diriwayatkan bahwa A’isyah Radhiyallahu anhuma menceritakan.

كَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُوْمُ حَتَّى نَقُوْلُ لاَ يُفْطِرُ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُوْلُ لاَ يَصُوْمُ فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَكْمَلَ صِيَامَ شَهْرٍ إِلاَّ رَمَضَانَ وَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ أَكْثَرَ صِيَامً مِنْهُ فِيْ شَعْبَانَ

"Aku tidak pernah melihat Rasûlullâh Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam puasa satu bulan penuh kecuali pada bulan Ramadhân dan aku tidak pernah melihat beliau Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam puasa lebih banyak dalam sebulan dibandingkan dengan puasa beliau Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam pada bulan Sya’bân.“
