Bismillah,
The Battle of Badr was the first major battle that took place between the Muslims and the polytheists. The Battle of Badr took place in the month of Ramadan 2 Hijriyah. The Battle of Badr was the first major conquest of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ after his migration from Mecca to Medina.
However, was the Battle of Badr really the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ's first battle against the infidel Quraysh? Was there another battle where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ brought the Muslims victory over the polytheists of Quraysh? Let's attend the study...

Assalamualaikuum, tadz permission to ask: If the Quraysh adhere to Rububiyah monotheism, does that mean they are Muslims? If they are Muslim, do they practice Islamic law, including praying 5 times a day?
Waalaikumussalam warahmatullah akhi hilal may Allah bless you.
Tauhid rububiyah is: oneness of Allah in His creation, ownership and management.
As for uluhiyah is: oneness of Allah in worship of Him.
Only having monotheism in rububiyah and not having monotheism in uluhiyah does not make a person a Muslim.
Likewise the Quraysh kuffar, they do not agree with Allah in worship, so they are called polytheists (duplicate Allah in worship).
Said ibn katsir rohimahullah in his commentary, interpreting Yusuf's letter verse 106:
وَمَا يُؤْمِنُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ بِاللَّهِ إِلَّا وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ {يوسف:106}
They do not believe in Allah unless they also commit shirk.
Ibn Abbas said: among their faith when it is said "who created the heavens, the earth and the mountains?" They will answer: "Allah". While they shirk Him.
Even their rububiyah is not perfect, they doubt Allah's ability, so they don't believe in the resurrection day.
Likewise what was said: mujahid, atha', Ikrimah, asysya'bi, qotadah, adhohhak and Abdurrahman bin Zaid bin aslam. – (interpretation of Ibn Kathir)
Jazakallah khair ustadz
Assalamualaikuum,
What is the difference between the polytheists of Qurais and the Muslims of today, tadz? are Muslims but still go to shamans, ask graves, offerings etc.?
Waalaikumsalam warahmatullah wabarakatuh.
In ancient times, most of the shirk was only in uluhiyah, while today it is even in rububiyah too.
May Allah protect us from the horrors of shirk whether we are aware of it or not.
The Prophet taught prayer for protection from shirk:
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لاَ أَعْلَمُ
“Allaahumma innii a'uudzu bika an usyrika bika wa anaa a'lam, wa astagh-firuka limaa laa a'lam.”
"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating partners with You while I know about it, and I ask forgiveness for what I do not know." (HR Bukhari no. 716 in Adab Al-Mufrad and authenticated by Al-Albani)
