Social media is like a coin that has two sides. On the one hand, it can have a positive impact on its users. However, on the other hand, it can lead to sinful acts. Among them, social media has the potential to be used as a means of showing off many things, such as property, vehicles, other expensive items, even children.
If the show-off is meant to motivate a lot of people, that excuse can be used. However, it is still inevitable that today there are more people living in poverty. Therefore, everyone who is active on social media must be sensitive to the lives of others when they want to upload something there.
If it's just showing a lot of cars, but rarely used, and so on, that's actually for people who understand that they are not showing off their wealth, but are showing off how many things they have to account for.
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "He will not enter Paradise in whose heart there is arrogance, even if it is only the size of an particle of grain. Nor will he go to hell, that is, a person in whose heart there is faith, even if it is only as big as an particle of grain."
A friend then said to the Messenger of Allah, "Indeed I feel proud, if my clothes are good and my sandals are also good." Then the Prophet Muhammad SAW said that Allah loves beauty, but what is meant by arrogance is rejecting the truth and degrading people.
One way to achieve fame that is popular these days is, through YouTube or social media content that shows off wealth. There is a certain satisfaction, when YouTube videos are watched by hundreds of thousands or millions of viewers.
Nas-Allah as salaamah, may Allah save us from this disease.
In the Qur'an, Allah has warned that it is not good to enjoy showing off wealth. Can be a source of destruction. That is, showing off wealth is based on arrogance and arrogance, the law is haram.
"Boasting has neglected you, (1) until you go into the tomb. (2) Don't be like that, later you will know (the result of your actions), (3) and don't be like that, later you will know. (4) Don't be like that, if you know with sure knowledge, (5) surely you will really see the Hellfire, (6) and you will really see it with 'ainul yaqin. (7) Then you will certainly be questioned on that day about the pleasures (which you boast in that world) (8)."(Surah At Takatsur: 1-8
Imam Al-Qurtubi said about the meaning
Boasting has neglected you, (1) until you go into the tomb. (2),
“You have been preoccupied with being proud of your wealth and your numbers from obeying Allah. Until you die and are buried."
Showing off wealth has occupied his time, energy and mind. Busy starting from looking for the motivation to show off. This is really very low motivation. The heart is always restless, restless when you want to show off your wealth, lest there is nothing good about it. Even when you get a compliment or a thumbs up, you're still nervous, because the compliment doesn't match your expectations. When you get praise from netizens as expected, you are still nervous, lest the praise afterward will not be as lively or special as this.
Also busy with the feeling of "don't let anyone compete with me here." And surely there will be competitors, who then push him to fight back, so that he can show off more treasures than him. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,
"Two greedy people who will never be satisfied: the seeker of knowledge and the seeker of the world." (Narrated by Thabrani, in Al-Kabir)
THE FUNCTION OF WEALTH IS NOT FOR EXHIBITION
For all friends who have been given wealth by Allah, let us realize that the function of wealth is not to be exhibited. But :
1. As a test from Allah.
Rich, not just delicious. But, being rich is a test. Allah Ta'ala reminds,
So as for man, if his Lord test it glorifying him and giving him pleasure, he said, "My Lord has glorified me."
(Surat al-Fajr, 15)
In the verse above, Allah calls the favors a test. Exam for what? The test is whether grateful or kufr. When we realize that wealth is a test, is it appropriate for us to show off? We are being tested by Allah, do we continue to take it lightly and proudly show off, "My friends are being tested by Allah.." If the world's tests are from humans, we are worried and serious, why are we making fun of God's test?! Are you being arrogant?! To play around?!
2. Be wasilah to heaven.
The real function of treasure is to be a bridge to heaven. All paths that can take you to heaven through the path of treasure, please pursue as hard as you can with your wealth.
Because in reality, there are many good things in this world and the hereafter that enter from the door of treasure.
Like one of the doors of Jariyah's reward is, through the treasure line.
"If a human dies, "The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, "then his deeds are cut off except for three deeds."
One of them :
Alms Jariyah. (HR. Muslim)
By spending wealth, we can get prayers from angels. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam who reported:
مَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ يُصْبِحُ الْعِبَادُ فِيهِ إِلاَّ مَلَكَانِ يَنْزِلاَنِ فَيَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمَا اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُنْفِقًا خَلَفًا ، وَيَقُولُ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُمْسِكًا تَلَفًا
"When the servant is in every morning, there are two angels who come down and pray, "O Allah, give compensation to those who like to spend (diligently provide for their families)."
Another angel prayed, "O Allah, grant bankruptcy for those who are reluctant to give alms (to provide)." (Narrated by Bukhari no. 1442 and Muslim no. 1010)
Hajj and Umrah, also need wealth. And there are many other rewards that can be achieved with wealth.
So, make wealth a bridge to heaven Allah 'azza wajalla.
So….
Hopefully it can enlighten us all. Wallahul muwaffiq.
