In various hadiths, it is narrated that the Messenger of Allah had many companions who fought in spreading the teachings of Islam. All of them keep the story as a lesson for Muslims to this day.

One friend whose story is also widely used as a lesson is the story of the patience of the figure of Abu Qilabah. He was the last companion of the Prophet who was greatly admired for his obedience and patience.

Dr. Khalid Zeed Abdullah Basalamah Lc MA or better known as Ustaz Khalid Basalamah retells the story of the extraordinary patience of the figure of Abu Qilabah.

It is said that a traveler was traveling from one city to another on a horse. One time, the traveler ran out of supplies and he was in the desert area.

When he was confused and wanted to seek help, the traveler saw that there was a campsite right in the middle of the desert. He came to the camp.

When entering the camp, the traveler said greetings. There he saw a very sad sight.

He found a man with his back lying in the camp. There is no food or drink in it. The condition of the man who was lying was also very pathetic. His arms and legs were cut off. While his eyes are blind.

The traveler also asked the man in the camp. "Who are you and what is your story in the desert?" he asked.

Then the man in the camp replied, "I am a servant of Allah and who are you?"

Then the traveler replied that he was a traveler who ran out of provisions and needed food and drink.

Then the man in the tent replied, "Alhamdulillah, all praise is due to Allah who has perfected His favor on me."

Then the traveler said, "O Lord, what favors are you grateful for?"

Then the man in the tent said, “Shut up, young man. You don't know that Allah's favor is so great to me. I can say a single sentence can cover all my shortcomings and the blessings are countless.”

The traveler expressed his admiration and he asked what he could do for the man in the tent.

Then the person in the tent said, “I have a son who always accompanies me here and takes care of him wholeheartedly. He hasn't been back in three days. Try to find the child around this desert, who knows if there is. And in this desert, it's just me and my son that live. And if you meet someone, then he is my son."

Then the traveler agreed and left. Not far from the camp, he found a human corpse surrounded by lions. Then the traveler concluded that it was the child of the person in the tent. And the child was dead with the flesh torn by the lion.

The traveler was confused on his way back to the camp. He was confused about what to say to the man in the camp because his son had died from a lion.

The traveler came and asked, "O my brother, do you know the story of the Prophet Ayyub?"

The man replied, "Of course."

Then the traveler asked for a little story about the Prophet Ayyub to the occupants of the tent.

The tent resident replied, “Ayyub is a person whose patience cannot be judged. Tested 20 years with leprosy by Allah, all 12 of his sons died, 20 years poor, and abandoned by his people."

Then the traveler replied, “You are right. I hope you can be a small part of Job. Because your son is one, your son is eaten by a lion."

Then the occupants of the tent said the words 'Alhamdulillah' and smiled. He was grateful that his son preceded to heaven. The traveler was surprised and amazed at the same time.

The man in the tent said that his son was very filial. He was sure that his son would go to heaven.

Then suddenly the man in the tent said the shahada and died.

The traveler is confused about what to do and looks for someone to ask for help. Before long he met four horsemen and looked like royalty. The traveler shouted and the four people came and asked what was wrong.

The traveler said that someone had died in the tent. He was blind, paralyzed, and one cub was eaten by a lion. The four people riding horses were shocked and asked where the man was. It was as if the four of them knew and knew the man.

The four of them then headed for the camp. When the body was opened, the four people burst into tears and kissed the man's body.

The traveler was shocked and wondered who exactly the man who had died in the simple camp was.

Then the four people said that the occupant of the tent was Abu Qilabah, the only friend of the Prophet who was still alive at that time.

They said, “We have been looking for him for a long time because the king asked him to be a judge and he ran away because he didn't want to be a judge. And he is a person who is famous for his piety and his prayers are efficacious.”

So the traveler cried while being grateful because he was met with a pious person so he could see one of the companions of the Prophet.

Ustaz Basalamah explained that the lesson that can be learned from the story of Abu Qilabah is the extraordinary patience of the figure of Abi Qilabah. He is an example of someone who knows God very well. So every trial given is only worldly.
