Istora Gelora Bung Karno (stands for Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace, also called Istora Senayan) is a closed sports stadium located within the Bung Karno Sports Center complex in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta. The capacity of this arena after renovation and reopening in 2018 is 7,166. This arena is often used as a badminton tournament location. Its inaugural event was the 1961 Thomas Cup.
This sports building was used as a complete facility and infrastructure for the 1962 Asian Games. Istora was opened on May 21, 1961 before the 1961 Thomas Cup held in Jakarta. The arena was renovated to host the 2018 Asian Games and 2018 Asian Games for People with Disabilities. The first post-renovation event was the 2018 Indonesia Masters. During the 2018 Asian Games, Istora became the location for badminton matches as well as basketball, while during the 2018 Asian Disability Games, this arena hosted badminton matches.
