The Great General Sudirman Mosque, located on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Bogor, stands on an area belonging to the Indonesian Army which was inaugurated directly by the Army Chief of Staff on Thursday, November 8, 2018. The mosque measuring 400 m (3 floors), was built by the Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Foundation in Purwokerto and also involving residents of Al Irsyad Alislamiyyah Bogor.
The Great General Sudirman Mosque in Bogor is actually the second mosque to collaborate with the Indonesian Army. Because it was previously built in Purwokerto with the same mosque name.
This mosque has three floors, the basement is for toilets and ablution areas, the 1st floor is for the main worship space of 300 m2 and the 2nd floor (mezanine) is for an additional worship space of 250 m2, totaling 550m2. and is estimated to be able to accommodate 1,100 congregants.
From the shape of the room, it is a turning rectangle. The void in the center of the front is in the shape of a square, leaving a transparent view behind the dome, which is still left plain. From the center of the basin hangs a 4-storey ethnic patterned decorative lamp, with 40 dots with a configuration of 16-12-8-4.
The altar is a cream colored matte ceramic 50×50 cm in size. The altar is left plain, on the right side hanging a typical mosque digital clock. In the middle of the altar is a mihrab with an elongated shape upwards. The mihrab is 4 meters wide, 8 meters high and 3 meters deep.
The edge of the mihrab is in the form of a pillar covered with dark brown ceramic. The mihrab cavity is curved at the top. The area between the mihrab edge and the mihrab cavity is filled with a white Islamic star patterned roster. The upper ceiling of the mihrab is shaped by an Islamic star. From here, a two-level ethnic patterned lamp sticks out with 8-4 lights.
Inside the mihrab there is a prayer mat for the imam and the pulpit. The pulpit is in the form of a throne, made of wood, plain without carving. The floor is a beige granite measuring 60x60cm which is covered with a soft dark green carpet with polka dots and shaft lines.
Currently, the General Sudirman Mosque is crowded with worshippers because it is located on a main road and its position is close to the Bogor palace.
