
The Great Mosque of An Nur is a mosque located in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. This mosque was built in 1963 and completed in 1968. The mosque in the capital of Riau Province, Pekanbaru is currently one of the grandest in Indonesia. Viewed from the side of the building, the mosque is heavily influenced by Malay, Turkish, Arabic and Indian architectural styles.
History
The Great Mosque of An Nur was established on 27 Rajab 1388 H or coincided with October 19, 1968, the Great Mosque of An-Nur was inaugurated by Arifin Ahmad, the Governor of Riau at that time and in 2000 during the governor Saleh Djasit this mosque was renovated on a large scale.
The Great Mosque of An-Nur Riau which we see is so majestic today is not the original building that was built in 1966 and was inaugurated in 1968. But it is the result of a total renovation and rebuilding of the old Great Mosque of An-Nur. At the turn of the millennium in 2000, when Riau was under the leadership of governor Salih Djasit, the old Great Mosque of An-Nur was completely overhauled to its current form.
From the construction in 2000, the mosque's land area has tripled from the previous 4 hectares to 12.6 hectares. The large area of the new mosque provides flexibility for providing open land for the Pekanbaru public, including a green garden area and a large parking area.
Historically, the Great Mosque of An-Nur was once the campus for the Faculty of Ushuluddin State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Sultan Syarif Kasim Pekabaru at the beginning of its establishment until 1973. IAIN Sultan Syarif Kasim is now the State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim (UIN SUSKA) Pekanbaru.
Architecture
The Great Mosque of An-Nur Riau in Pekanbaru is referred to as the Taj Mahal of Riau province. If we observe the architecture of the Great Mosque of An-Nur, it does have some similarities with the Taj Mahal. The architecture of this mosque was designed by Ir. Roseno with a size of 50 X 50 m which is located in one yard which has an area of 400 X 200 m. The capacity of the mosque can accommodate about 4,500 worshipers. The mosque building consists of three levels. The upper level is used for prayer, and the lower level is for offices and meeting rooms.
This mosque has three stairs, 1 ladder on the front and 2 stairs on the side. At the top consists of 13 doors and the bottom consists of 4 doors and has large rooms and a hall. While the calligraphy in the room of the mosque was written by a calligrapher named Azhari Nur from Jakarta which was written in 1970.
The bottom floor of the mosque is the secretariat of the mosque's management, management, mosque youth and classrooms where Islamic education is carried out. The Great Mosque of An-Nur Riau is also equipped with an escalator connecting the first and second floors. In the courtyard of the Great Mosque of An-Nur Riau is a large field
The Great Mosque of An Nur is also equipped with various facilities such as education ranging from playgroups, kindergarten, elementary, junior high & high school, a complete library and other facilities such as halls and meeting rooms, classrooms and office spaces. In addition, the Great Mosque of An Nur has a Community Broadcasting Radio called LPK An-Nur FM with a frequency of 107.7 MHz.
